Traits:
Honest, Sensitive, Diplomatic, Intuitive, Communicative, Enthusiastic, Talkative, Confident, Ethical, Independent, Optimistic, Imaginative, Social, Self-controlled, Strong Will-power

Tell about yourself - your personality, lifestyle, etc.
I am a relentless optimist. I love people and animals and plants. I love to travel and have lived in Europe and Central/South America.

I was raised vegetarian so I have never eaten meat, I have practiced some form of meditation for over 10 years, enjoy yoga and helping those in need.

My greatest joys in life include meeting new people and maintaining my relationships with friends and family, exploring new places (especially out in nature) and staying active and healthy (running, hiking, cross country skiing and sledding!). Also a great conversation can make my day!

What kind of person are you interested in meeting?
I enjoy the company of someone who is a good communicator, well grounded but adventurous/spontaneous/creative.

If you are passionate about your life and curious about the world we will get along very well regardless of the details.

What sort of relationship would you like at this point in your life.
At this point in my life I am ready to settle down - I spent most of my 20's abroad working in often stressful environments as a volunteer in various projects and did not invest much energy in relationships. Now I am ready to make a relationship a priority in my life.

What made you choose Vegetarianism as a way of life? What impact has it had on your life?
I have always been a vegetarian and can not imagine ever eating meat - I love animals and the vegetarian diet supports my meditation practice and overall health.

What is your favorite Vegetarian food?
Papaya!

Would you like to share a great (easy) Vegetarian recipe?
Vegan banana bread:

1c flour
1t baking soda
1t baking powder
3T corn starch (makes cake soft)
Cinnamon to taste (1-3 t)
(sift and mix in a large bowl)

Mash 2 over ripe bananas and squeeze either lemon or orange juice over bananas (helps cake rise)

1/2 c oil
1/2 c sugar
1t vanilla
mix together

Alternate adding the banana and sugar/oil mixture into the dry ingredients.

Add 1/2 cup cold water

When the medium-sized pyrex baking dish is oiled and floured and the oven is hot (350 degrees) mix 1/2 t baking soda in 1T water and add to batter. Immediately add 1t apple cider vinegar and slowing mix (the bubbles produced will help the cake rise).

Once the bubbles are mixed in, immediately put batter into pan and into the oven.

Bake for 25-40 mins. (test with a toothpick - it should come out clean when the cake is done baking)

What type of work do you do? Do you enjoy it?
I am a teacher and find my work fulfilling and challenging.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy spending time outdoors, going to museums or checking out a live music performance. I also enjoy exploring/ wandering in the city and though I do not go to the theatre often I do love off/ off off Broadway. Whenever I have the chance I love to speak Spanish or Portuguese.

What do you hate doing?
I hate video games. Well, I guess I just don't get the attraction. But many odd things that people tend to dislike I enjoy - like shoveling snow or washing dishes. Oh, I dislike playing pool but mainly because I am really bad at it!

Tell about where you grew up or where you are from.
I grew up in inner city Detroit - I guess that is where I had my first multi-cultural experience since almost everyone in my neighborhood was of African American descent. Though I would never live there again, I do love Detroit in all of her complexities and have a wonderful circle of friends there.

Also I have three brothers and two sisters who are very important in my life - my parents became vegetarian before we were born and we were raised in a household of composting and trapping the stray ant or spider in a cup and releasing it outdoors.

Do you have pets? Tell about them.
No pets but would like to have a dog some day.

What would you say is your best virtue?
I am a compassionate, kind-hearted listener.

What was the most daring / wild thing you have ever done?
Several things come to mind:
1. I caught a boat down the Amazon River (a 4 day trip) but that was more adventurous than daring.
2. I traveled to Morocco shortly after the 9/11/2001 attacks - many people tried to convince me that terrible things would happen to me since I was a woman and American going to a predominately Muslim country. I had a great time!
3. I worked in a kindergarten in one of the most impoverished slums of Guatemala City.
4. The stupidest thing I have ever done was sneak out when I was 14 with a girl friend in inner city Detroit.

What terrifies you?
Scary movies. I hide under blankets and squeal like a little girl.

If you were on a deserted island, and you could choose 3 items to take, what would they be?
A water filter, a sharp machete and matches. I know, this is very pragmatic but I have been in near-deserted-island-like situations and these things really come in handy!

How is your physical shape? What do you do to keep in shape?
I run about 2 miles 3-5 times a week, some yoga and other seasonal activities when I can (cross country skiing, swimming...)
