Tell about yourself - your personality, lifestyle, etc.
I believe in God AND Evolution; that true happiness is found in the simple desire to be happy; that anger is a waste of time and energy; that regular physical and mental exercise, good diet and happiness are the keys to long life; that the wonders of nature and those less fortunate need protection; that a good relationship is well worth the effort because life is better when it is shared and, when it comes to love, I've been asleep too long.

I'd like to think I'm a fairly balanced and easy going individual, perhaps a bit unconventional (vegetarian, spirituality, following a different drummer). As adventurous as I am lazy; as fun-loving as I am serious; as young-at-heart as I am mature and responsible; as non-materialistic as I am materialistic. Still enjoying the richness of life from the passions of a sensual kiss to the joy and peace that linger after a moment of spiritual bliss. Music: Moody Blues, Pachelbel, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Lifehouse, MercyMe. Humor: Steven Wright, George Carlin, Marx Brothers, Three Stooges, an occasional pun. Slightly on the quiet and introspective side of the fence but also with an adventurous side (tried parachuting, snow camping, still enjoy occasional backpacking, rock climbing, SCUBA trips). Health conscious: a non-judgmental, ovo-lacto vegetarian who's not above having a drink with friends. Enjoy all sciences (education in Geography, Earth Sciences) while on a spiritual "path". Left-handed, right-brained (more spatial than verbal). More impressed with humility than ego. Oh, and regarding my being single, if you’re wondering, when I was younger I never felt that I had to be married and knew I only wanted to do it once. Now, I am ready to settle down with someone for the rest of our lives and am looking forward to sharing my life and many wonderful experiences with a kindred spirit.

Feel it move all things
Know it permeates all things
Love is in the air

What kind of person are you interested in meeting?
The woman I'd like to meet is interested in her health (balancing exercising/activities with knowing how and when to relax and "smell the roses"). She is on the slender side of average and is nice looking both inside and out. She has an easy-going nature, an open mind and positive attitude, rooted in some expression of spirituality and respect for things other than "self" (e.g. a concern for other people, nature/animals); with both playful and serious natures. She is someone I want to write poetry to; someone with whom I can converse on many levels and laugh, joke and be playful with; someone who is interested in living a self-sufficient, sustainable lifestyle close to nature but not too far from civilization. Extra points if you have a pair of hiking boots. OK, I know this is a lot and pretty specific but I also know that a relationship requires compromise.

What sort of relationship would you like at this point in your life.
I'd like to find someone with similar inclinations and interests, preferably for a long term relationship possibly leading to marriage. I haven't found anyone local and I'm expecting to retire to a different location so I'm open to a long distance relationship, as well.

What made you choose Vegetarianism as a way of life? What impact has it had on your life?
I read and talked with vegetarian friends, tried it for a month and found I felt better. Bottom line, if I can live a healthy life w/o killing animals, that seems right for me.

Name some of your all-time favorite music / movies / TV / books.
Covered earlier.

What type of work do you do? Do you enjoy it?
I work as a Geographer for Motorola in a department that creates digital map data used by engineers to model cellular networks.

What else should we know about you?
I plan to retire in 3-4 years (maybe sooner if the economy turns around LOL) and am interested in building a green home probably somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic states (leaning towards VA as climate models show SC and NC becoming drier). I am able to begin the "building" process any time. I would like to live as self-sufficiently/sustainably as possible though not too far from civilization. I'm interested in green technology and living off the land (garden, greenhouse, fruit/nut trees). I am looking forward to doing more volunteer work when I retire (Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, etc.) I still love to get outdoors and commune with Nature. (One of the photos is from rock climbing in Joshua Tree NP; 06/09).
