Tell about yourself - your personality, lifestyle, etc.
This is from my OKCupid profile. I put effort into writing that, and I figured it best describes me:

So I kind of decided that I should take down identifiable pictures of myself because of the public nature of my job. I'm a professor at a college in the St. Louis area, and while I don't think having a profile here would jeopardize that or anything, I would not like a student of mine to say to me "hey! I saw your profile on OKC." I'm not Brad Pitt, but I like to think I am not hideous either. I would be happy to show anyone a pic that wants to see one. Hopefully you would like me mainly for characteristics other than pure appearance anyway.

I have a pretty caustic sense of humor. I jokes about doing things I would not actually do. A lot. I like to think I have a good (if odd) sense of humor.

I bought a house in St. Louis recently. The house really belongs to my cat though -- I just pay the mortgage.

Being vegan is something that is really important to me. I could never seriously date someone that eats meat. I try to to be a stereotypically judgmental vegan. (Sarcasm intended... mostly.) It frustrates me when people say they are animal lovers, yet eat animals. The two are mutually exclusive -- sorry. I don't think it is something that most people actively think about, so I am not accusing anyone (you, the person reading this profile, for instance) of being a hypocrite, precisely because you likely have NOT thought about it very much.

I went to school. A lot. I have more degrees than anyone really needs. I think getting advanced degrees is more a symptom of a person being a geek than being brilliant. I mean, I guess you need some brains, sure, but if someone goes to college long enough it probably has more to do with them being obsessive than it does with them being super smart.

I make it a point not to take myself too seriously. I succeed at this most of the time.

I think it's important for people to respect other people that are not like them. I despise bigotry in all its forms -- this includes racism, and anti-gay bigotry (hetereosexism), bigotry against various religions, and yes, thoughtless treatment of animals.

I like to read books that make me think, and make subtle philosophical points. I am a fan of classic science fiction for that reason -- there is some really good and deep stuff out there that I really appreciate.

I have extremely tough fingernails.

I have never really dated very much. I've always gotten along with women better than men though. It seems like men always have something to prove. That kind of bothers me. Women aren't really like that in my experience. I am divorced, and recently got out of a really serious relationship. That was painful -- the end of the most recent relationship much more so than the end of the marriage. I do know that I want a long term relationship. Friendships are prerequisite for good relationships, so I guess I would like to get to know someone a bit. I think what I would really like more than anything is a woman who is vegetarian (or, even better, vegan), someone who is intelligent, and is okay with not agreeing with me on every issue. Moral and intellectual characteristics are more important than physical ones to me. That said, I do find myself attracted to women with curves. I don't find the super skinny model look attractive -- I like women to be shaped like women!

I always seem to stay of good terms with the people I've been with. I don't hold grudges or enjoy animosity. I despise "drama," and like to get long with people when at all possible. Sometimes this clashes with my tendency to tell people to go fuck themselves when I think they are being unjust or unfair to someone I care about.

I've lived in the St. Louis area a little over three years now. I like it here. I am kind of "locked in" to staying here with the house and all, so I guess it's a good thing that I like it I suppose.

I'm a sports fan, but not really a sports fanatic. I like to follow the Cardinals pretty closely. I also love college football season.

What else? I like to cook. A lot. I am good at it too. I don't really consider it bragging so much as a statement of fact. :) I like to think that if I ever had to do anything else for a living I would make a pretty good vegan chef. I take pride in making omnivores not miss the meat in the stuff I make. Recently, I have learned to make really good gumbo.

What kind of person are you interested in meeting?
An honest girl that does not eat animals. I am not stuck on a specific kind of person. I can go for a girly girl, hippie, or a punk rock chick. I like people based on who they are as individuals.

What sort of relationship would you like at this point in your life.
I honestly do not know for sure. I want something long term eventually -- I do know that. I am not sure how "ready" I am for that, or whatever, but I understand that is what guys say when they are just looking to get laid, which I am not. (I mean, I'm not AGAINST sex, don't get me wrong, but it's not why I am here.)

What made you choose Vegetarianism as a way of life? What impact has it had on your life?
I went veggie like 12 years ago. There was a combination of reason, but it was mainly about not wanting to eat animals. I went vegan over a year and a half ago (June of 08).

What is your favorite Vegetarian food?
I love Thai food.

Why does this question specify vegetarian food? WTF else would I eat?

Do you follow any other healthy lifestyles (yoga, etc.)?
Not really. Veganism isn't about health for me.

Name some of your all-time favorite music / movies / TV / books.
Best TV show ever: The Wire.

I also enjoy Lost, though I probably shouldn't

Stuff by Vonnegut, Asimov, and Card.

The Big Lebowski, Godfathers 1 and 2 (not 3)

Hardcore punk (oldish school), alt rap, oh, and I love the Pixies. I think if my generation had any taste at all the Pixies would be commonly considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

What type of work do you do? Do you enjoy it?
I'm a college professor in the St. Louis area. (I don't have an identifiable pic up for this reason.)

I love teaching. I think it is what I was "meant" to do.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy playing the occasional video game. I'm not a hardcore gamer though. I can be an introvert, but not obsessively so. I am pretty flexible.

What do you hate doing?
I am not one for wild parties.

Do you have pets? Tell about them.
I have a cat. Her name is Alisha. She is awesome.

If you were on a deserted island, and you could choose 3 items to take, what would they be?
Flair gun, life raft, and a year's supply of vegan food.

Seriously?
